My mouse is not working!! On laptop why?

I own a Acer Laptop....but, when I use the touch pad...it won't work! why? even when I right click it won't work, the arrow does not move on the screen! boo hoo! is it locked? How do you unlock it? I restarted the laptop...it still won't move! Help mne please!!
